The support is effective through technical and financial means to develop programs, projects and actions which address the objectives of the Program of Support for Immigrant Associations.
The support to immigrant associations are assigned by signing agreements between the associations and the ACM, PI - High Commission for Migration, IP, based on projects submitted by their own, under the Programme of Support for Immigrant Associations (PAAI) in force, have the following objectives:
a) contribute to the integration of immigrant citizens by promoting their dignity and equal opportunities;
b) changing attitudes and mentalities within the equal opportunities scope for legally residing in Portugal, particularly in terms of education, culture and media;
c) Technical training support to business initiatives, cultural and social in order to stimulate entrepreneurial activity of immigrants;
d) Vocational training in order to encourage the expansion of professional skills of immigrant citizens;
e) The creation of support services for immigrant families;
f) Establishing exchanges with foreign counterparts or associations to promote common stock of information or training;
g) The study and investigation of cases and social integration measures and of discrimination based on race, color, national or ethnic origin;
h) The elimination of all forms of discrimination based on race, color, national or ethnic origin.
The support becomes effective also through training actions of managers, technicians and volunteers of immigrant associations in the form of training activities and monitoring the implementation of the projects. Technical support should take, among others, the following:
a) Legal or other type of information;
b) Documentation and bibliography.
