The Certificate of Registration, that formalizes the right of residence in Portugal, may be requested if the family member of the EU citizen nation of EU remains in Portugal for a period over three months. After remaining three months in the national territory, the citizen has a deadline of 30 days to make that registration, receiving the Certificate of Registration. For that purpose are considered: the partner, descendants up to 21 years, descendants over 21 years that prove to be dependent and are ascendants of the right ‘holder.
The request is made at the City Council of the area of residence, and the following documents are needed:
- Valid identification document;
- Document proving the family relation or partner quality, if the document of identification does not mention clearly that relation or quality;
- Certificate of the registration of the EU citizen that is accompanied or with gather;
- If the direct descendant over 21 years or direct ascendant of the EU citizen depends on him/ her must also present a document that proves that he is dependent of the citizen that accompanies or with whom he gathers.
If it is other family member of the EU citizen must also present a document issued by the competent authority of the country of origin, certifying that depends of the citizen or that lives in house sharing our proving the existence of severe health reasons that demand imperatively the personal assistance of the EU citizen.
Generally, the Certificate of Registration is immediately issued, has a validity of five years and its cost cannot exceed the price of the identification document paid by the national citizens, it´s currently 7.50 Euros for minors under six years old and 15 Euros for all other cases.
