On the day of the first celebration of World Portuguese Language Day, 5 of May of 2020, ACM’s Portuguese Online Platform for Portuguese has already reached 20 thousand users. This tool aims to support learning European Portuguese by adults, speakers of other languages, and has already had users from 190 nationalities, mainly from Venezuela, Portugal, United States of America and the United Kingdom.
The Platform was launched in 2015 and allows users to practice the Portuguese language through various linguistic activities of oral comprehension, reading and writing, as well as to learn and develop vocabulary and grammar knowledge.
The Platform, available in Arabic, English, Portuguese and Spanish, is organized in 24 functional thematic modules, available in text, audio, video and image format.
The contents are organized in two levels (A and B) described in two manuals: “Portuguese for Speakers of Other Languages – Basic User in the Host Country”; and “Portuguese for Speakers of Other Languages – Independent User in the Host Country”. These two documents interpreter the descriptions of the levels presented in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), produced by the Council of Europe Language Policy Unit.
